Have you ever asked the question – What do you want from me God? Either out of frustration when things don’t go right or when you just want to please him because you recognize that God is so good and you just don’t deserves to be loved by him. I’ve asked the question from the perspective of both mindsets.
I recently had one bad experience after another and I screamed the question at God (audibly). I was really telling him that I needed a break. I wanted something to go right for a change…. that is to say, MY WAY. A scripture verse I had read maybe one time came back to mind, “……. What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God”. I had to do an online search to find where the verse was in the bible (Micah 6:8).
But what is my way when I’m stressed, disappointed and beat up. ….. to give you a hint, its not being merciful or humble. Try angry and selfish. Maybe you are like me and you enter self preservation mode, where protecting self interest and keeping offenders at bay become priority. But God doesn’t say that we should only be fair to others when we are not stressed. or to withhold kindness from those we don’t think deserve it. We are called to be excellent at what is good and innocent of evil (Romans 16:19)
I was all agitated and out of sync with the will of God and he was reminding me that I still needed to be fair, kind and to consider others better than myself. Easy to say but hard to do (in the flesh). So tap in to the power of the Holy Spirit today, ask him to help you to get through those difficult days, to help you to fight and win!!
Exodus 14:14 (NIV) – The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.
