For months Psalm 11 would pop up in my mind, sometimes in the middle of the night or early in the morning when I awoke. The first time it happened I was curious to know what was in this chapter. I realized earlier that God spoke to me in this way, random bible verses would pop into my mind, verses I had never read, but when I did read it I would find that it answered a question I had or applied to a situation that I was going through at that time. But when I read Psalm 11 it didn’t mean anything to me. I was wondering why God had put that chapter in my mind.
Two verses in the chapter stuck out to me though verses 1 and 4:
1 I trust in the Lord for protection. So why do you say to me, “Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!
4 But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.
I wasn’t planning to run anywhere so I just didn’t get it, but repeatedly the chapter would pop into my mind, and I would read it again – still got nothing. Recently though I have felt like escaping, running away from the reality of life’s challenges and Psalm 11:1 has come back to me again. I started asking myself, Who is telling me to run away for safety? and Why does running away seem like the preferred choice of action? I realized that it was the enemy of my soul, the devil, he was trying to give me a quick fix solution that would take me away from God and my support system, straight to the danger zone.
What should I actually be doing instead – turning to the Lord for protection and direction for my life, just as it says in Psalm 11:1. Running away never solves anything, just ask the prodigal son. The only one who wins when we don’t face our hurts is the one who laughs at us in the background when we stumble and fall. Our choices have consequences and can significantly change the direction of our lives, so choose wisely.
I’m happy that the God who see’s and plans ahead [El Roi] planted the verse in my mind many months ago to give me direction and a plan of action. When you are confused and not sure where to turn, hurt and in need of comfort, turn to the one who watches everyone closely. The one who sees and plans a way of escape for you long before you are even going through the trial. The God who see’s and plans ahead.
Consider: Genesis 16:13; Proverbs 5:21; Psalm 37; Ephesians 3:14 – 20
Action Plan: When God warns us of pending danger, our job is to listen and to take action to avoid the traps set by the enemy who only wants to steal our joy and our salvation. So CHOOSE – joy, love, and peace.
